Erotic Teen Models

Over at my site JimmyStephans.com we have started the process of planning our photo shoots for 2012. It takes a long time to get all the details in place because we also have to rely on outside sources, such as travel companies, resorts or homeowners, model schedules and much, much more.  Some of the key points that we have in our plans are:

1 – Hiring many new models so we can have all sorts of different styles of teen glamour models this year. Some short, some tall. Some white, some african-americans, some hispanics and other races. We really do want to have a lot of diferent styles and personalities to work with this year.

2 – We also want to hire teen models that also have a bit of an actress type personality. We are planning to make a series of mini-movies with the teen models this year, usually about one hour long, so the girls should have an awesome smile and be able to speaking opening to a camera and microphone, not just pose pretty. You can get a bit of an idea about what we mean by looking at this Sports Illustrated Video. See how she speaks freely and shows her personality? Thats what we are looking for with our new teen glamour models.

3 – Next we are looking for girls that want to work with us because its fun and they want to do it really, really good. In the last two or three years we have hired a few girls that didn’t really care about the modeling or the photos but really just wanted to get a fat pay check. This year we want to make sure the new models are here because they want to work with us to make pretty teen model pictures and videos / movies, and then get a good paycheck later.

A few days ago I discussed what I thought defined a teen glamour model. Part of that included that she was a professional model and not just a girl in front of a camera. Some other photographers called and emailed me with their own opinions. Some seem to think that any girl that poses on a weekend and gets a free dress is a professional teen model of some sort. I say it takes more than a couple of hours on a weekend.

What many seemed to have missed is that there is more to being a professional teen model of any type – glamour or fashion- than just getting paid for it. Just because a girl gets a few dollars for posing doesn’t mean she is a great teen model. Being professional at anything – like playing football or being a cute teen model – is more than the paycheck.

Professionals work at their job, not just do the job. A professional model workouts on the weekends or evenings to keep her body in great shape. She eats the right stuff and makes sure to get plenty of sleep the day or two before an important photo shoot.

All of those things, and many more, are part of being a professional teen model or teen glamour model or teen fashion model. The paycheck is the reward for being professional and doing the right preparation. Its not the defining item that takes a cute girl from photo subject to professional.

This is my favorite quote on this subject; “Conforming to the standards of a profession”.

Conforming to the standards of a profession in the case of teen glamour models means having the pride in herself to do it right, not just do it.

At my studio we are always looking for girls, ages 13 to 17, that want to be professional teen glamour models or teen swimwear models and do it to high standards. We are looking not just for girls that want to do it, but for girls that want to do it to high standards and be professional about it.

Its very, very hard to describe what an “erotic teen model” really is. Some persons in the modeling business won’t even discuss the topic, while others sort of lower the standards to include any teen girl that poses in the mirror in a bikini or her underwear.

My own description is more detailed and maybe a bit more selective too. Lets look at the words and break it down.

“Erotic” is defined in the dictionary as “arousing or satisfying sexual desire” so just that one word sets the teen model apart from an average teen girl because to her friends, neighbors and classmates not every teen girl causes arousal or desire.

“Teen” is defined in the dictionary as “numerals from 13 to 19″ so it simply means a girls between age 13 and 19. This is one area where I sort of bend the definition a tiny bit. For my photography work, and the models I hire, “teen” means ages 13 to 16 or 17. Girls under age 18, before they start adding ugly tattoos and extra weight to the body are not as photogenic as the younger girls. There are exceptions of course, but in general girls around age 15 are normally slimmer, trimmer and more photogenic. Thats why the big model agencies in New York and Paris are always hiring super tall 14, 15 and 16 year olds.

“Model” is defined in the dictionary as “a person whose profession is posing for artists or photographers” so it means that they are not just a girl posing for her boyfriend’s camera. I look at it this way – just because a boy can play football with his buddies in the park it doesn’t mean he is a football player and ready for the National Football League (NFL). Its the same with teen girls. Just because they pose in the mirror or for their boyfriend in the park – it doesn’t mean they are a model. As the dictionary says; a “model” is a person whose profession is posing. Profession means that they are getting paid, that it is their job, that they work at it and are great at it. The real NFL football players workout and sty in shape and practice all they can to be the best they can be. A model does that too – she works out, stays in shape, eats healthy food, practices poses and facial expressions and does all she can to be the best she can be. She doesn’t just show up and expect to look her best – she works to be the best.

Now we can add all those words and definitions together to get to what defines an “Erotic Teen Model”.

To me, its a girl that has unique facial features and a photogenic body. She is between 13 and 17 years old and really wants to be a great model so she works at it by taking care of herself and doing her best all the time.

Being cute or wanting to “be a model” isn’t good enough for the best photographers or the best production companies.
